The refurbishment of the Sports Pavilion at EB 2/3 D. Pedro IV School – Mindelo has been completed, with its official inauguration scheduled for April 25, marking a moment of great significance for the local community and for the municipality’s sports development.
This investment, amounting to approximately €2.7 million (including VAT), is part of the “Citizens of the Future” measure within the Vila do Conde Action Plan for Disadvantaged Communities, co-financed by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP).
More than just a physical intervention, this refurbishment reflects the Municipality’s clear vision: to promote sport as a key pillar of well-being, inclusion, and social development. The renovated pavilion emerges as a modern, functional, and welcoming space, designed to serve the educational community, local associations, and all citizens, encouraging active and healthy lifestyles.
The project was developed in line with the principles of Nearly Zero Energy Building (nZEB) certification, reflecting a strong environmental commitment. The solutions adopted prioritize energy efficiency, with significant improvements to façades, roofing, and climate control and supply systems, contributing to reduced energy consumption and environmental footprint. From the original building, the foundations, structure, and exterior walls were preserved, giving way to a thoroughly renewed facility.
The layout was carefully designed to ensure functionality and comfort, with separate access for athletes, students, the public, and services. The ground floor includes six changing rooms for students and athletes, two for teachers and referees, a medical office, a teachers’ room, an associations’ room, a gym/multipurpose room, storage areas, and a technical zone. On the first floor, there is a seating area with capacity for 290 spectators, supported by a bar and sanitary facilities, with elevator access ensuring full accessibility.
The use of durable, low-maintenance construction solutions, combined with the installation of a state-of-the-art sports floor, allows for a wide range of sports activities, enhancing the facility’s versatility.
With this refurbishment, the Municipality reaffirms its commitment to sport as a driver of social cohesion, education, and quality of life, providing the community with an उत्कृष्ट facility prepared to inspire present and future generations.
