Today, Poça dos Pesos is a small aquatic ecosystem of great interest for observing local biodiversity. Despite its modest size, this habitat supports a surprising diversity of organisms, ranging from aquatic insects to amphibians that play a vital role in maintaining the ecological balance of the system.
During this activity, the Ponds with Life (Charcos com Vida) project team will introduce participants to the hidden life beneath the water's surface through simple sampling and observation techniques. Using nets, magnifying glasses and observation containers, we will identify different groups of aquatic organisms, learn about their life cycles and discover the important roles they play in freshwater ecosystems.
Throughout the session, participants will also explore the importance of small water bodies for biodiversity conservation, as well as the relationship between the region's natural and historical heritage.
