Inspired by one of Albert Camus’ most famous novels, published in 1942, this drama follows Meursault, a French man living in colonial Algeria in the 1930s who leads a life of complete indifference and emotional detachment.
One day, he becomes involved in a dispute that results in the death of an Arab man he encounters on a beach. Throughout the court proceedings, it is his inability to show emotion — whether grief over his mother’s death, affection for his girlfriend, or remorse for the crime he has committed — that becomes the main reason for his death sentence.
