Within the scope of the 14th Traditional Boat Meeting, promoted by the Association of Former Navy Sailors of Vila do Conde in partnership with the, the book “Mestre Artur Guimarães – Naval Painter – The Artist and the Work”, by Ernesto Martins Vaz Ribeiro, will be presented on May 23 at 3:00 PM, at the.

Mestre Artur Guimarães, born in Porto, was a leading figure in maritime-themed painting in Portugal. Renowned for his mastery of drawing and watercolour, he devoted much of his life to the study, preservation, and representation of Portuguese maritime history, portraying with precision and sensitivity the naval architecture and the evolution of vessels over time.

His work maintains a special connection with Vila do Conde, where he depicted iconic monuments and vessels of the city, contributing to the preservation, through art, of its maritime memory and identity.

Several of his drawings and watercolours can be viewed in the long-term exhibition “Trade, Navigation and 16th-Century Shipbuilding”, on display at the Naval Construction Museum.
