After their mother’s death, sisters Nora and Agnes are faced with the return of their father, Gustav, to the city of Oslo, which he had left several years earlier following his divorce. A renowned film director whose career has been on hold for some time, Gustav has always maintained a distant and difficult relationship with his daughters.

When he offers Nora, a stage actress, the leading role in a film based on the story of their own mother, Gustav stirs up painful memories and resentment caused by his absence. When she refuses the proposal, the role is given to Rachel Kemp, a rising Hollywood star. But that decision does little to heal the still-open wounds.

Competing at the Cannes Film Festival, where it was awarded the Grand Prix, this family drama received nine nominations for the 2026 Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Actress for Renate Reinsve, Best Supporting Actor for Stellan Skarsgård, and Best Director for Joachim Trier — who had previously been nominated in 2022 for The Worst Person in the World, also starring Reinsve.
