In 1943, at the famous Broadway restaurant Sardi's, musical theatre composer Lorenz Hart tries to keep up appearances despite his illness while celebrating the success of a former partner, Richard Rodgers, on the opening night of his new musical, Oklahoma!, written in collaboration with a new partner, Oscar Hammerstein.

The film was nominated for two Oscars: Best Actor and Best Original Screenplay.
