“Constructed Landscapes” is the title of the new photography exhibition, which will open on Saturday, November 22, at 3:30 PM, at the Vila do Conde Memory Center, as part of the “FOTO VC” program. The inauguration will include the presence of the artist and Valdemar Cruz, author of the book “Constructed Landscapes – The Past and Present of Portuguese Architecture in 16 Works + 1”, whose work inspired this exhibition project.
Published in February 2024, the book gathers the individual selections of more than fifty professionals—including architects, critics, curators, academics, visual artists, civil engineers, photographers, and a geographer—resulting in a selection of 16 significant works of Portuguese architecture from the early 20th century to the present. Without hierarchies or rankings, the works are presented chronologically, encouraging debate and reflection.
The current exhibition, supported by dstgroup and zet gallery, features 16 large-format photographs, offering visitors a unique journey through the diverse architectural proposals captured in the images.
Through her artistic perspective, Inês d’Orey goes beyond documentary representation, combining her work with research: she studies each building, engages with its context, and constructs a personal visual narrative that complements and expands the interpretations proposed in the book, revealing new readings and layers of meaning.
Ten years after her first exhibition at the Vila do Conde Memory Center in the collective show “The Old House”, coinciding with the opening of Galeria Julio, Inês d’Orey now returns to this space, itself representative of the synthesis between art, photography, and architecture.
